The shift from 3IR, third industrial revolution to 4IR, fourth industrial revolution, accompanies a significant change in the way business is done; where universal connectivity is at the core. From traditional banks to central banks and from multinational companies to local SMEs, 4IR can either be embraced or seen as a serious threat to ‘business as usual.’ The acceleration of innovation should not be view through the lens of surprise, leading to major business impacts; but as a powerful tool with clever uses; enhancing quality of life and empowering people and businesses.
Disruptive Change
From traditional banks to central banks and from multinational companies to local SMEs, 4IR can either be embraced or seen as a serious threat to ‘business as usual.’
4IR is both elemental to the structure of society and is a catalyst to evolving societies at an exponential rate; disrupting every country for every industry. How similar to that of the SDG agenda, which demands a disruptive approach to the world’s largest challenges; thereby, expecting transformational change in every country and every industry with the collective aim to deliver solutions to SDGs.
There are great synergies between the growth of 4IR and what it can potentially deliver; and the demands of the SDGs and what must be delivered. In both instances, doing something different is the raison d’être at the core.
At the very basics; the supply side and demand side; supply side, 4IR serves existing needs through disrupting value chains. Indeed, innovative actors, those who are truly embracing the opportunities that 4IR offers, can overthrow well-established actors, by leveraging the improving quality, speed and price which 4IR effectively delivers. Demand side provides increased transparency and consumer engagement; compelling the acceptance of unique design and market driven delivery of products and services.
World Wide Generation [WWG] has developed a platform, G17Eco, that comingles supply and demand to positively disrupt existing structures, transparently; convoking people, assets and data. WWG is a neutral facilitator to accelerate the financing of the SDGs; whose platform is a unique product which delivers an understanding of the impact of products, services and behaviour of companies and investment funds on the SDGs. The supply side disruption is driven by data and the need for companies and investors to make well-informed investment decisions on where and how resources are deployed. Current data collection for environment, social and governance [ESG] and impact is done on an annual basis. Would it not be ideal for those actors who are serious about impacting the SDG to have access to timely, high-quality and well-priced data on resource flows and impact?
WWG platform enhances transparency and deliverability of credible and validated data on key impact milestones in real-time. Essentially, presenting the providence of the data and clarity of the impact in a transparent manner. The WWG mission is to bring SDG impact data monitoring and measuring more in line with robust financial notification.
There are 4 main effects of 4IR that are fully met by the G17Eco platform. The first of which is, customer and stakeholder expectations, which can be affected by 4IR, with the addition of transparency the gathering and provision of data. G17Eco, as a DLT based platform, can provide transparency and lucidity of data which can achieve customer and stakeholder expectations. The second effect is elementary product enhancement; the current understanding of ESG and sustainability products are disjointed and require an innovative actor, such as G17Eco, to enhance the current way of doing things in order to make transformational change and harmonise the language around the SDGs. The third main effect is on collaborative innovations. What better way to augment collaboration and innovation than to ensure that everyone understands what they do, where they add value and how the contribute to success; the elemental concept of partnership and the seed of innovation. G17Eco provides transparency and impact on the SDG, facilitating partnerships and leveraging knowledge. The last of the four effects is organisational forms; where a platform such as G17Eco and the transformational changes demanded by the SDGs, means that culture, endowment, capacity, performance and talent will need to be re-examined.
Both 4IR and the SDGs have a globally shared idea, developing comprehensive and mutual views, on how tech can impact lives and how it can improve quality of life. The 4IR and SDG mandate can shape environmental, social and cultural experiences, empower people and deliver solutions. G17Eco as an end-to-end innovative SDG solution provider, uniquely straddles both the expectations and potential of 4IR and the SDGs. It is the ideal conduit to transparently track where resources flow and what impacted and by how much that resource has achieved. This is the creation of trust; unlocking partnerships and capital, promoting success and scaling impact.
